ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture therapy is 5000 years old, originating in ancient China.
It involves the insertion of fine needles into acupuncture points on the body to strengthen and harmonise the energy, called Qi and Blood.
There are around 300 main points, but over 2000 known points situated on 12 main meridians or energy channels. The diagram shows the bladder channel. Each main point has different functions eg. bladder 13 strengthens the lung Qi.
Low back pain is treated using the bladder channel. The acupuncture points relax the muscles and reduce inflammation, so decreasing the pain and promoting healing. Asthma can also be helped by using upper bladder points.
The person is treated as a whole and a full history is taken before making a diagnosis.
Conditions effectively treated include: low back pain, sports injuries, migraine, insomnia, stress, anxiety, asthma, arthritis, knee and shoulder pain and coughs and bronchitis.
